One of the questions that comes up during Yogafairy Prenatal Yoga class circle time is how to relieve aches and pains caused from pregnancy. A few newsletters ago I wrote about prenatal massage, and acupuncture- which I am a firm believer in….but there is one last component that I haven’t written about, and that is chiropractic care. I had asked Dr. Carly Tokar, a two time Yogafairy Mama herself, to touch upon the importance of it. Here is what she has to say:
The motherhood transition is truly amazing! Along with all the wonderful changes and joy of bringing a life into the world can come the things that many mamas don’t want to talk about or know that there’s help for. Starting with the aches and pains of pregnancy, low back pain, sciatica, and pubic pain, all the way through to the postpartum period (up to a YEAR or more after baby is born!) including upper back pain from holding a new baby all the time, diastasis recti, pelvic pain, etc. Your body can change so much and it is easy to ignore it or even neglect it, especially after baby is born and is relying on you 24/7. Self care is incredibly important for mommy and in turn, for baby too.
Chiropractic care can be extremely beneficial for expectant and new moms. Balancing the pelvis, tailbone and spine during this time can allow the body to communicate properly, take pressure off of irritated nerves and allow for natural and effective relief, a more comfortable pregnancy, and faster recovery. In addition,
after the healing period has passed, guidance and support with mama’s mindset, nutrition and exercise are truly important and should not be left out or put on the back burner! If you’re curious how chiropractic can help you, give me a call!
