While sitting in prenatal yoga class, I learn so many things I did not know about when I was pregnant, and I always want to share my new findings. One mommy had shared that she was getting “binding” done. I had NEVER heard of it, and she went on to explain it is a wrapping that is used post-partum to help with your stomach and back. You can buy them online, but this mommy worked with a place that came to her house and created a custom one. I reached out to her and asked some basic questions to learn more about the wrap, and her experience with it. The official name is a Bengkung wrap, and she used a company called concierge doulas.
*How long did it take? Initially she came to my house for an hour long appointment to teach me how to tie the wrap. It takes about 5 mins a day to get wrapped (you can do this yourself after you know how)
*Price? $150 includes your wrap in your favorite color and the appointment where you learn how to tie it.
*How happy are you with it so far? I really love it because you can make it as tight or as loose as you want and tighter or looser in different areas. So if my back is hurting higher up I can make it tighter there, or if I just need it tighter in my hips, you get the idea. It goes from your pubic bone to just under the breasts.
*How long do you keep it on? 8 hours at a time
*Is it easy to wash? Yes, cold water in the machine, and hang to dry.
*Do you see a difference with using it? I do, it’s really supportive, especially with breastfeeding (it keeps me from hunching over and causing back pain) and I notice that it pulls my tummy in tighter when I take it off.
*Or would you suggest just buying one online versus the company that
came and did it for you? I don’t think I would recommend buying online just because you have to learn how to tie it, and it was easier for me in person… maybe you could find videos on YouTube but for me I thought it was worth the price.
