Pregnant Mama Love by Lori Barrett Photography

It’s the month of Love . . . Self-love and loving your baby!

Before anything else . . . the Yogafairy Prenatal Yoga Reunion is Saturday, March 21st, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Plantation Woods Park in Plantation, Florida! I can’t wait to see all the mamas and your babies so please save the date! We’ll have yummy snacks, a donation box for women and babies in Liberia, and Tink and Peter Pan will be attending to dance, sing, and do face painting for Yogafairy kiddos!

My wish for you this month is that you love yourself as much as you love your baby. It’s so easy to love our children, to see how perfect they are, and to love every single part of them. We love their beautiful bodies and toes and even their imperfections. It’s sometimes much harder to give ourselves the same self-acceptance that we give them.

Pregnancy Yoga is only one of many steps to self-acceptance. We actively work on accepting where you are with your body, doing a yoga pose to a level that is perfect for your body. Prenatal Yoga is non-competitive. It doesn’t matter how much yoga the woman standing beside you has done. What matters is where YOU are and how YOU feel today and where YOU are in your pregnancy. All of that varies from week to week, so we adjust it week to week for YOU.

So come join us for Prenatal Yoga to continue your journey in Self-love, to help love your changing, beautiful body.

Resolution – I will do Prenatal Yoga!

And you will look as gorgeous as this woman! O.k., No, I can’t guarantee that! In fact, most women when they’re pregnant feel anything but beautiful. You feel large, uncomfortable, like your body is changing all the time (because it is!), etc. If you could all see yourself though how I see you and how others see you, you would see how utterly gorgeous you look while pregnant. Beautiful, spectacular, glowing, *Gorgeous*. Seriously gorgeous.

Prenatal Yoga has nothing to do with that! You can just walk around looking like that! Although I hope it has a little to do with feeling beautiful. I hope that each prenatal yoga class we run in the Fort Lauderdale / Broward County area helps each one of you feel that much better about yourself and your body and your baby. I hope that it touches your heart and your soul and helps you connect more with your  baby and the incredible power you possess for both pregnancy and birth.

I hope, I hope, I hope!

Happy Holidays Prenatal Yoga Mamas!

Happy Holidays Prenatal Yoga Mamas!

Happy Holidays Prenatal Yoga Mamas!

We all want the holidays to go well. But remember that kids often melt down on holidays. And some adults too. The sugar, presents, relatives, and random schedules can feel overwhelming to them. Eva’s birthday party was last week and with 13 little girls in a not so large house, it got pretty loud and overwhelming. She ended up hiding at one point just to escape the mayhem, which of course created more mayhem!
Prepare for the meltdown so that when it happens, you don’t feel like it ruins the day. And try not to shame them. Instead of, “Where ARE you! You need to come out and be polite!” Try “It’s ok to take a break. Everyone gets overwhelmed sometimes. When you’re ready, please come out and say hello.”

Here are some things to offer them when it happens (or before!):

  • Offer your child a break in a quiet room
  • Prepare a snuggle chair that the child can relax in and look at or read a book.
  • Take a walk outside with them. Or tell them you need their help outside (away from everyone) to find something (like a pink flower or a funny shaped cloud).
  • Ask for their help in the kitchen if that’s a quiet place.
  • Offer them a special hiding spot that they can escape to if it gets too loud for them.
And remember that mamas need breaks too! The baby or your kiddos is an excellent way to take one, saying you need to attend to them and whisking them away to a quiet spot.
